The Andalusia region enchants with its picturesque hills and mountains, which shine in gentle green or beautiful ochre tones depending on the season.
In the Cabo de Gata Nature Park, you will find idyllic fishing villages and dream beaches, often deserted. One of these breathtaking beaches is in Las Negras, about 50 km northeast of Almeria.
Our holiday home Casa Loma is located on a quiet hill, just 650 meters from the beach and town center, offering a magnificent view of the sea. From here, paths lead along partly dried riverbeds to the natural springs in the adjacent valley.
A popular excursion destination is the San Pedro Castle, dating back to the pirate era. Some alternative vacationers have set up tents here and help maintain the cleanliness of this beautiful beach.

In the center of Las Negras, you will find everything you need: two small but well-stocked supermarkets, various boutiques, and a wide selection of bars and restaurants. During high season in July and August, there are many concerts and the center is very lively.
In low season, it is quieter and perfect for those seeking relaxation and long walks in moderate temperatures. For water sports enthusiasts, the local dive school is a great place to test your skills. Alternatively, you can take a water taxi to San Pedro or rent a kayak or motorboat and explore the surroundings on your own.
About 20 km away is Campohermoso, home of the Spanish tomato. Here you will find supermarkets for budget shopping, banks, ATMs, car workshops, gas stations, and plenty of boutiques and small shops. Every Thursday there is a large, typical Spanish weekly market (right at the town entrance).
A car is very useful to get there and explore the surroundings.
Nijar, founded by the Moors in the 8th century, is now the administrative center of the municipality and covers most of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Nature Park. The town is known for its white houses, two beautiful squares, and a watchtower above the old town. There are also numerous ceramic workshops, carpet weavings, and a small museum about artificial irrigation.
Rodalquilar, once a small mining village, lies in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains and hills of inactive mines. In the old part of the village, restored houses alternate with ruins of former miners homes. The interesting mine ruins and the castle, built during the reign of Carlos III to defend the coast, are worth visiting.
Rodalquilar is today the administrative center of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Nature Park and houses the environmental office, an internet center, and the only information center open all year. Volcanus House and the El Albardinal botanical garden are other highlights.
South of San Jose, in the direction of Cabo de Gata, are the most beautiful beaches of the region. The largest bay is Playa de los Genoveses, a sandy beach over one kilometer long, named after Genoese troops who landed here in 1147. Behind it are smaller beaches, some only accessible on foot, including the nudist-friendly Playa del Barronal.
Playa de Monsul, with its spectacular volcanic landscape, is particularly popular - a dream beach and a famous film location. A famous scene from Indiana Jones was filmed here.
Nearby is the quiet, dark-sand Playa de Media Luna. Both main beaches offer parking and can be reached by shuttle bus in high season.
Northwest of San Jose, the pebble beach Cala Higuera attracts with a cozy beach bar and wonderful views.
The small coastal town of Agua Amarga in the Cabo de Gata Nature Park was once only accessible via a sand track. Today it attracts visitors with its peaceful charm and a variety of activities such as swimming, diving, kayaking, horse riding, or hiking.
On the fine sandy beach Playa Agua Amarga, bars and restaurants invite you to relax. Old pirate caves are found in the surrounding rocks. Shops and small hotels are available in town.
To the northeast rises the extinct volcano Mesa Roldan with a lighthouse and watchtower - a perfect viewpoint.
To the southwest are the untouched beaches Cala de Enmedio and Cala del Plomo, among the regions most beautiful.
A coastal hiking trail leads from Agua Amarga over these beaches to Las Negras. The roughly four-hour tour offers stunning views - return by foot or taxi.
Almeria, the nearest "big city" (about 55 km away), is known for its North African-like cityscape with narrow streets, white houses, gardens, and palm avenues. It is the capital of the province of the same name and lies on the Costa de Almeria on the Mediterranean.
The landscape around Almeria served as the backdrop for many Western films, shot in the dusty valleys and plains around the small desert town of Tabernas and in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Nature Park. This film tradition also inspired Bully Herbig, who filmed "Der Schuh des Manitu" here.
In Almeria, there are not only numerous bars, pubs, and nightclubs, but also shopping centers and an interesting shopping district in the old town for shopping enthusiasts.
Our property is located behind a driveable dry riverbed, so there is no official postal address. Google Plus Code: 8C8VVXPR+RW (simply enter as a destination in Google Maps).
